RE+ 2024: Making CMBlu’s Presence Known at America’s Largest Renewable Energy Conference

newsSeptember 30th, 2024

The RE+ 2024 conference, held September 9 – 12 at the Anaheim Convention Center, brought together 50,000 leaders and innovators from across the renewable energy industry. This global event showcased the latest advancements in solar, energy storage, and clean technology, offering a unique platform for networking, collaboration, and innovation. As the industry continues its rapid growth, RE+ remains a cornerstone for professionals eager to shape the future of renewable energy.

Energy Storage Inspired by Nature

At RE+ 2024, CMBlu Energy showcased our innovative Organic SolidFlow module, a building block to our battery energy storage system. Our team engaged with a variety of attendees, from industry experts to potential partners, all of whom were interested in learning more about CMBlu’s twist on flow batteries.

Most flow batteries are metal-based, using materials like vanadium or iron, and rely on liquid electrolytes for energy storage. CMBlu’s technology is unique in that it uses solid carbon-based electrolyte materials to store energy within the architecture of a flow battery. Using organic molecules with earth-abundant, easily sourced and recyclable materials, CMBlu Energy combines the best of solid-state batteries with those of flow. This gives the Organic SolidFlow battery several key advantages, including a higher energy density.

“We Empower the World with Unlimited Energy Storage Inspired by Nature” perfectly encapsulates our approach as we continue to pioneer solutions that are not only innovative but also safe, sustainable, and secure.

Beyond the Booth Highlights

Beyond our presence at the booth, CMBlu’s participation in RE+ 2024 extended to numerous other activities, further enhancing our engagement with the renewable energy community.

Dinner with Dignitaries

We started out the conference events by attending on Monday, September 9, a private dinner with German State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Anja Hajduk, where we strengthened our connections with international partners and discussed the future of renewable energy collaboration. The exclusive gathering brought together a select group of high-level executives, policymakers, legal experts, and industry leaders, representing both U.S. and German businesses and government. The evening was filled with engaging conversations, warm temperatures, and breathtaking views, closing out with a stunning sunset that perfecting capped off the memorable night.

Run with the Sun

Dr. Tyler Gully, CMBlu Energy AG Project Manager, took part in the Run with the Sun 5K event on Tuesday, September 10, joining other industry professionals for a fun and energetic start to the day. We are incredibly proud of Tyler for setting a goal, pushing himself, and not only finishing the race but for truly excelling with a personal best. His determination and dedication are a perfect reflection of the drive and resilience that our team brings to every challenge.

Connecting through Celebration

On Tuesday, our team also attended the Celebrating Women in Renewable Energy reception, an empowering event where women and allies from across the renewable energy sector came together to discuss accelerating the clean energy transition. Despite the heat, or perhaps because of it, we mostly found ourselves gathered in an air-conditioned room to hear from industry leaders. Their insights left us feeling energized and optimistic about what’s ahead. We also attended a variety of other networking opportunities, often raising our glass to collaboration and camaraderie.

Breakfast with Intent

On Wednesday, September 11, our team attended the RE+ Funders Breakfast. This exclusive networking event brought together funders, accelerators, and investors with researchers and industry experts to discuss the commercialization of clean energy technologies and to explore financial resources. It was an invaluable opportunity to connect with forward-thinking professionals.

Podcasts

CMBlu Energy had the great opportunity to participate in two engaging podcasts. First our CEO, Constantin Eis and President, Giovanni Damato, joined the Beyond Lithium podcast, hosted by Nate Kirchhofer, which is expected to be released in October 2024. This episode mostly centered around our first-of-a-kind Organic SolidFlow battery but also delved into the future of the industry, including CMBlu’s moonshot goals for revolutionizing energy storage beyond lithium-ion. Next, Giovanni, alongside Alice Jackson, Senior Vice President, System Strategy, and Chief Planning Officer at Xcel Energy, took part in SEPA’s Power Up podcast. This episode focused on long-duration energy storage, exploring how our innovative products and upcoming projects could transform the landscape for utilities as the clean energy transition accelerates. Earlier this year, Desert Blume, a 50MWh project was named SEPA’s Energy Storage Power Player of the Year.

Media Opportunities

Throughout the event, our team engaged in several media interviews, further amplifying our message and increasing awareness of our Organic SolidFlow technology. We appreciate the time spent together and look forward to sharing more about our commitment to empowering the world with unlimited energy storage inspired by nature.

Meetings with Utilities, Investors, and Project Developers

We held important discussions with key stakeholders, and a variety of utilities, investors, and project developers. These conversations will pave the way for exciting future projects, expanding the reach of our innovative long-duration energy storage solutions.

Our RE+ 2024 experience was also marked by some “uniquely California” moments, as our team navigated extreme heat, notorious traffic, and even an earthquake, adding an unexpected layer to the conference. We also made time to strengthen our team bonds, with a memorable evening spent together at Disneyland, where we shared in the magic of one of the world’s most iconic parks. The night was filled with belly laughs and childlike enthusiasm, perfectly capturing the spirit that defined our time together in Anaheim.
