CMBlu Energy was recognized as a finalist in Challenge 2 of BloombergNEF’s Pioneers program: Innovations in Energy Storage. CMBlu Energy CEO Constantin Eis was invited to speak at the BNEF Summit in New York about the important role of long-duration energy storage for the energy transition. BloombergNEF estimates that demand for energy storage technologies could reach almost six terawatt-hours by 2035. With this year’s Challenge 2, they were looking for innovation in the storage of electrical, thermal, mechanical or chemical energy with applications in power, transport, and/or industry. CMBlu was selected in March 2025 in recognition of its first-of-its-kind Organic SolidFlow battery. Organic SolidFlow battery technology combines the benefits of both solid-state and flow batteries, enabling safe, sustainable, and secure energy storage. It uses carbon-based molecules and earth-abundant, recyclable materials to store energy efficiently while also eliminating fire and supply chain risks typically associated with lithium-ion batteries.
Being selected as a finalist for BNEF’s Pioneers program shows just how far CMBlu Energy has come on our journey to launch the next phase of energy storage technology. Our Organic SolidFlow battery technology provides a viable, scalable alternative to conventional systems that is not just versatile and easy to source, but also safe, sustainable, and secure. Thank you to BNEF for recognizing our progress.
The mission of the annual BNEF Pioneers program is to find and celebrate leading innovations that could play an important role in the path to a net-zero economy. To frame the competition, BNEF Pioneers identifies three key ‘challenges’, based on the technology gaps that emerge from BNEF’s long-term outlooks on energy, transport, and materials. BloombergNEF is a leading research and analysis provider in the energy and climate sectors and the BNEF Pioneers program is highly respected within the industry.
